Doug Flutie Autographed New Jersey Generals- USFL Full Size Authentic Helmet at ItsAlreadySigned4U.com. Doug Flutie had one of footballs longest and strangest rides. The quarterback became an instant legend while playing for Boston College when, on Nov. 23, 1984, during a game against Miami, he threw a Hail Mary pass that gave Boston a 47-45 win and helped earn him the Heisman Trophy. Rather than enter the NFL, Flutie kicked off his professional career by playing for the New Jersey Generals of the USFL. When the USFL went under, Flutie joined the Bears for a year and the Patriots for two seasons, before moving to the Canadian Football League for eight seasons. He eventually returned to the NFL, playing for the Bills, the Chargers and again for the Patriots before retiring in 2006 at the age of 43. In 2006, in his final game, Flutie added another lasting memory when he converted the NFLs first successful drop kick since 1941 for an extra point in a Patriots 28-26 win over the Miami Dolphins.
