Miami went 12-0, with an average margin of victory of 34. The Hurricane D scored eight touchdowns of its own. Six players earned All-American status and six players were finalists for national awards, including Maxwell Award winner, Ken Dorsey, and Outland Trophy winner, Bryant McKinnie. Dorsey was also a Heisman finalist, finishing third. The 'Canes beat Nebraska in the Rose Bowl on January 3, 2002 by a score of 37-14 to win their fifth National Championship.
