Product Description:
Warren Moon's road to the Hall of Fame was a little more traveled than most. As a senior for the University of Washington, Warren led the Huskies to a 27-20 win over the favored Michigan Wolverines in the 1978 Rose Bowl and was named the game's Most Valuable Player with two touchdown runs and a third quarter 28-yard touchdown pass. Despite his collegiate success, Warren went undrafted in the National Football League. Critics believed that since he was smaller, and a "roll out" type of passer versus a pocket passer, the chances of him becoming a good NFL quarterback were very doubtful. Some NFL scouts even advised him to switch to a tight end before the 1978 draft. As an alternative, Moon decided to try the Canadian Football League. There he would assist in leading the Edmonton Eskimos to an unprecedented five consecutive Grey Cup victories from 1978-1982. Moon amassed an amazing 1,369 completions on 2,382 attempts for 21,288 yards and 144 touchdown passes. He was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame in 2001. Despite his success in the CFL, he decided that his real financial success would come from playing in the NFL. Warren signed as a free agent in 1984 with the Houston Oilers and threw for a franchise record 3,338 yards in his first season. In 1990, Moon led the league with 4,689 passing yards, 584 attempts, 362 completions and 33 touchdowns, tying Dan Marino's record with nine 300-yard games in a season. The following year, he led the league again in passing with 4,690 yards. He joined Marino and Dan Fouts as the only quarterbacks to have back-to-back 4,000-yard seasons. Moon also established new NFL records that season with 655 attempts and 404 completions. Combining his NFL and CFL stats, Moon's career numbers are incredible: 5,357 completions for 70,613 yards and 435 touchdowns, all of which are all higher than the NFL records for each category. With his Canadian League statistics being discounted, Moon's 17 year NFL career is still amazing, finishing with 3,988 completions for 49,325 yards, 291 touchdown passes, 1,736 yards rushing, and 22 rushing touchdowns. He is currently ranked as the fourth-highest passer in NFL history. The Wilson pro leather football is personally hand signed by Warren Moon with the inscription "HOF 2006". It comes with a certificate of authenticity (COA) and tamper-resistant hologram from Mounted Memories.
